Questions your MP should really answer

Here is your chance to put forward questions (in a collective manner) to your MP (that stands for Member of Parliament, just in case you think it meant Military Police). Critical questions (of course!...why the heck would you want to ask if your MP is married but available?!?) which require a stand from these MPs on a few key critical issues facing our nation today.

Haris Ibrahim, prominent lawyer and civil rights activist, who is also Jeff Ooi's current defense lawyer, has started a new blog at harismibrahim.wordpress.com. The blog gives you a chance to at least force a stand from your MP (or candidates in your constituency during election time) so that you could make a more informed choice when deciding who to "pangkah". Some of the questions are as follow (for full list, do check out the blog):

- We are becoming an increasingly divided nation on account of the racial and religious politics that dominates our national political landscape. Is the Barisan government perpetuating the ‘divide and rule’ politics for their own political end so that the stated object of a ‘Bangsa Malaysia’ remains a hollow slogan?

- A loss of public confidence in a judiciary seemingly weakened since the Salleh Abas sacking and the 1988 constitutional amendment. Is the recent call to review the Salleh Abas sacking as the starting point to restore the judiciary as the 3rd equal arm of government justified? Would the establishment of a Commission for the Appointment of the Judiciary begin the process to restore public confidence in the administration of justice?

...and a couple more.

Like all journeys it will always start with the first step. Thus, in view of such a potential massive civil movement (that is, if Malaysians are by and large "unreasonable" enough to stand up and be counted lah!) the blog will start with 10 parliamentary constituencies:

5. Segambut
7. Petaling Jaya Selatan
8. Petaling Jaya Utara
9. Subang
10. Kelana Jaya

If you're a voter in any of the constituencies listed above, and have been feeling quite helpless about the increasingly pathetic situation our country seems to be slipping into, this is the chance for you to take a more active role in civil society. It doesn't matter if it is a small step, as long as you think this is a worthwhile effort you would have already become an "unreasonable" person by doing what little bit you can to force a change for the better.

It's time to make BN MPs more accountable to the more critical issues this nation is facing. It's time to tell them to stop behaving like a typical MP longkang who is only good for fixing your burst sewage pipe, clogged drains, potholes ridden roads (by the way, PJ has plenty of such roads still. They don't seem to be that good in fixing roads after all). It's time to be "unreasonable" with these BN MPs!
